Lesotho in southern Africa is one of the poorest countries in the world. On a high plateau with fascinating scenery, the Basotho people live between tradition and modernity.
The Stegen-based association “Children of Lesotho e.V.” maintains close contacts with the people there and supports Kingsgate Primary School in Mafeteng, both financially and by sending volunteers.
Last year, after finishing school at Kolleg St. Sebastian in Stegen, 19-year-old Leah Scheiwe spent a volunteer year in Lesotho as a weltwärts volunteer. For the young woman from Kirchzarten this fulfilled a long-held wish: she took on a wide range of tasks at the school in Mafeteng and supported the teachers in their work.
She returned recently and will talk about her experiences in an illustrated talk.
The event takes place on Wednesday 27 September at 7.30 pm at the Ecumenical Centre in Stegen, Dorfplatz 14. Admission is free; donations are welcome. The event is organised by Ökumenische Erwachsenenbildung Dreisamtal.
