Leah Scheiwe in Malealea

Dear friends of Children of Lesotho,

Some time has passed since I last wrote. The months have gone by faster and faster, and my stay here is slowly but surely coming to an end.

The more time I have spent in Lesotho, the more I have settled in and got used to my “new” life. A daily routine has developed and I am really enjoying it here.

Over the past months I have continued the afternoon care at the school and have found a good routine that both the children and I are very happy with.

A few events such as the mid-term seminar in February, the Cultural Day at Kingsgate in March and my father’s visit followed by a holiday in Cape Town in April brought some variety in between.

It is now winter in Lesotho, and despite all the warnings I was still surprised at how cold it gets here…

Kingsgate is closed for the whole of June and July, and during this time I have been working in Malealea with the Malealea Development Trust (MDT).

The work here was quite a contrast to the school – whether repairing the road to the valley, working with groups of volunteers or doing office work.

I really enjoyed being able to work more closely with the community here in the village, and I am still very enthusiastic about the work the trust does here.

Soon I will be going back to the school, where my last weeks will begin.

Of course the thought of having to go back to Germany soon makes me very sad, but that is all the more reason to enjoy my last two months here.

With that in mind, it is goodbye from me for now – thank you very much for your support, which made this incredibly valuable experience possible for me!

Yours, Leah
